Dalton Bender, DNP, FNP-C is a LEO Intermittent Lecturer and Adjunct Clinical Faculty at University of Michigan’s School of Nursing (UMSN) in the Health Behavior and Biological Sciences Department. As a Family Nurse Practitioner, he is committed to working with vulnerable populations, particularly LGBTAIQ+ health. He has experience providing care for the prevention and treatment of HIV, disease prevention/primary care, gender affirming care, and sexual health. He is a preceptor for nurse practitioner students at Henry Ford Health where he works in the Department of Infectious Diseases. His interests primarily focus on HIV, primary care, LGBTQIA+ health, quality improvement, and underserved populations. He is a member of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners and Michigan Council of Nurse Practitioners.
Teaching
Dr. Bender teaches graduate family nurse practitioner and adult gerontology primary care nurse practitioner students in their clinical conferences and on clinical rotations. He serves as a guest speaker during courses for the LGBTQIA+ health certification. As an educator, he hopes to foster an inclusive environment for students by normalizing uncertainty as part of learning medicine as it’s impossible to know everything. He believes learners perform best when they feel respected, supported, and comfortable when learning new topics.
